Dark Blue is also known as the blue Moominpappa mug. A freelance designer Camilla Moberg was hired to design the mug, while the head designer of Arabia’s Moomin products Tove Slotte was on maternity leave with her first-born. Moberg designed a total of four different Moomin mugs during the 90’s.
This green test version of the mug is a unique artist piece and as such the only example in the world. Only one mug per test colour has ever been made and in the bottom of each mug there is a four digit code to specify the colour. It is very important to find exactly the right tone of the colour that works best with the design. These test versions are often destroyed after production, but some examples have survived into the personal collections of the designers or other factory employees.
