The Stockmann 150 Special Mug Moomin Mug was launched in 2012 to celebrate department store Stockmann’s 150th anniversary. Mug’s design was taken from a gift paper that Tove Jansson had designed for Stockmann in the 50’s.
At the latest this was the mug that showcased special Moomin mugs’ popularity. Stockmann’s customer service was busy calming down the customers who weren’t fast enough to buy mugs from the first batch of Stockmann mugs. The first batch of 25 000 mugs were sold out fast. Stockmann released an additional batch of the mugs later in 2012, during this period a buy limit of six mugs per customer was added. Even these mugs were quickly sold out and prices for these mugs have been on the rise ever since.
Stocmann’s 150 Edited collection anniversary selection included numbered items, which you could only buy from Stockmann. Stockmann’s Moomin mug was the special item number 125, which was shown also on the sticker attached to the mug. Other products made by using Tove Jansson’s gift paper’s designs were tea and coffee jars, a coaster, a tray and a kitchen towel. Later on Stockmann launched at least a plate, a jug and a decked jar.
