Moomin mug Moomin’s Day 2024 is also known as Spring. The mug is a continuum to the summer-themed Moomin’s Day Moomin mug from 2018 and the winter-themed Moomin’s Day mug from 2021. The 2024 Moomin’s Day mug, named Spring, is the third and final Moomin’s Day mug in the collection that features an illustration of a particular season in Moominvalley. Moomin’s day celebrates the birth of Tove Jansson (9th of August), the creator of Moomin. This special edition Moomin mug is produced in limited quantity.
The illustration on the Moomin’s Day 2024 mug features one of the surest signs of spring’s arrival as Snufkin returns to Moominvalley from his winter wanderings. Every year Snufkin heads south for the winter, but before he leaves, he assures Moomintroll that we will return to Moominvalley on the first day of spring. The illustration on the mug shows how the snow has already melted, and the bright spring sun has attracted the first tulips and daffodils out.
The illustration on the Spring mug has been made by Tove Slotte. Slotte drew the featured Snufkin based on Tove Jansson’s original aquarelle piece. The aquarelle illustrates a spring song in a Moomin songbook, originally published in Swedish in 1993 as Visor från Mumindalen. Illustrations of Moomintroll, Snorkmaiden, the stream and some other minor elements have been sourced from Tove Jansson’s comic story Moomin’s Winter Follies (1955). The daffodils are from Moominland Midwinter.
