Moomin mug Moomin’s Day 2026 is the sixth Moomin’s Day mug. The previous Moomin’s Day mug from 2025 celebrated the Moomins’ 80th anniversary. The 2024 Moomin’s Day mug was also known as Spring, and it was part of the seasons-themed Moomin’s Day mug series. Other Moomin’s Day mugs released so far are the summer-themed Moomin’s Day Moomin mug from 2018, the winter-themed Moomin’s Day mug from 2021 and the Moomin’s Day mug 0f 2023 called Sea Breeze. Moomin’s day celebrates the birth of Tove Jansson (9th of August), the creator of Moomin. This special edition Moomin mug is produced in limited quantity.
The main theme of the illustration on the 2026 Moomin’s Day mug revolves around autumn. The low northern sun and the landscape dressed in fall foliage glow in warm ochre tones, featuring shades of yellow, pink, orange, and copper. In the scene, the Moomins are preparing for hibernation well before the leaves have fallen and the first quiet snow begins to settle. For the winter, they gather hay to make their beds soft and spruce needles to sustain them through the long sleep. The illustration is based on Tove Jansson’s 1955 comic Moomin’s Winter Follies, in which Moominpappa, unable to fall asleep despite the season, decides to wake his family so they can experience winter – a fascinating yet slightly frightening time of year.
The 2026 Moomin’s Day mug stands out with its glowing autumnal color palette and is Moomin Arabia’s first distinctly autumn-themed Moomin mug. It is also exceptional in that it is the final Moomin mug illustration by Tove Slotte, the long-time illustrator of Moomin mugs. Over a career spanning more than thirty years, Slotte, who retired in 2022, created a total of 113 illustrations for Moomin mugs and other Moomin tableware.
In addition to the mug, the 2026 Moomin’s Day collection includes products related to previous seasonal Moomin’s Day mug illustrations, such as mini plates and mini mugs. In an exception to past releases, the 2026 collection will become available already on August 8th, 2026. The products are produced in limited quantities and will be available only while supplies last. The mug is sold in a beautiful gift box featuring the same atmospheric illustration as the mug itself.
