The 2019 Moominvalley Park Japan Moomin mug is also known as the Japan mug or the Japanese mug. However this mug isn’t one of the made in Japan Yamaka mugs, but instead a Moomin mug launched by Arabia. The mug was launched when Moominvalley Park theme park opened in Hanno, Japan on 16th of March in 2019. The mug’s small production quantity combined with extremely difficult availability has made it into one of the most popular Moomin mugs.

The 2023 Moominvalley Park Japan Moomin mug was launched in the Moominvalley theme park in Hanno, Japan on 10th of February 2023. The mug was first sold only inside the theme park and later in Moomin Shop Japan as well. Moomin Shop Japan will ship the mugs only within Japan. The production volume of this mug will be lower than with the 2019 edition. There is also a purchase limit of five mugs per customer at the theme park.
The illustration on the new Moominvalley Park Japan mug looks a lot like the previous edition from 2019. The bottom part of the mug has stayed the same apart from some color changes, but the upper part of the mug has had a complete makeover. The new illustration is based on Tove Jansson’s book Tales from Moominvalley originally published in 1962. The book has nine different short stories in total. The story used in this illustration is The Hemulen Who Loved Silence. In the story Hemulen works in an amusement park as a ticket puncher. Heavy rain dismantles the whole amusement park and Hemulen moves to live alone in his grandmothers’ old garden. Eventually children gather all the parts back together and build the amusement park back together inside the garden.
This product includes both editions of the Moominvalley Park Japan mug. Both mugs are new and the original product labels are still attached. The 2023 version comes with the original cardboard box as well.
